Summary: NASA is awarding $45 million to 21 higher-education institutions through the Minority University Research and Education Project Institutional Research Opportunity (MIRO) and Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) grants. Seven minority-serving institutions will receive approximately $5 million each over five years for various research projects. Additionally, 14 institutions will receive up to $750,000 each over three years to enhance their research infrastructure and competitiveness. These awards aim to strengthen research capabilities and support STEM education, aligning with NASA’s mission and national priorities. Torry Johnson, deputy associate administrator of STEM Engagement Programs at NASA, highlighted the importance of these grants in raising technological standards and opening doors to new opportunities.
