Summary: NASA’s DC-8 aircraft completed its final mission on April 1, 2024, and returned to Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California, after a successful 37-year career in airborne science missions. The aircraft, used since 1987 as the largest flying science laboratory, will retire after concluding operations in May and will be relocated to Idaho State University for training future aircraft technicians. The DC-8 has supported numerous scientific projects and will continue its educational legacy in its new role.
