Summary: Before the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, Predictive Science Inc. aimed to predict the Sun’s corona appearance during totality. Using NASA’s Aitken, Electra, and Pleiades supercomputers and data from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory and the Solar Orbiter, they created a dynamic model of the corona. The model accurately predicted several details but had slight misalignments due to unseen solar activity. Despite the complexities, the simulation’s results are scientifically significant and will be studied further, according to research scientist Cooper Downs.
